My boys are officially getting bored.

Christmas vacation is great, but two weeks is probably a good limit.

For some reason, we have a third week this year.

The boys have been hanging loose for the most part. Playing video games on the xBox. Playing video games on the computer. Avoiding school work and house work when they can wiggle out of it. Continue reading »

Someone has been having a hard time adjusting to the life of a “big school” student behavior-wise, not only at school but at after school care. This has esclated during the holiday camps.

After teetering on the edge of banishment, it was time to start with a new attitude this week. Continue reading »

On her way to house sit, Charmain arrives right as the elves appear to take her great-uncle — a wizard — for treatment of some unspecified magical malady. Little does she know of the surprises his humble house holds and how it will change her life.

The last book in the Howl’s Moving Castle series, Diana Wynne Jones’ House of Many Ways does
not disappoint. Continue reading »

...cooking! It was another day in the kitchen, cooking up cuisines beginning with the letter “C.”

There’s nothing more soothing to me then to get elbow deep in dough, with Anna hanging off the apron strings assisting with stirring or cutting cookies. The magic of seeing ingredients come together to make something delicious, and then figuring how to make it better, takes my thinking down different paths and out of the realm of technology.

I made it a point to spend the whole day on Sunday doing nothing but cooking in the kitchen. It has been a while since I’ve spent more than fleeting moments in the kitchen and was way over due.

Anywhere you turn, something is always changing in IT.

When I first started in the business, we ran on MB, not GB of memory and MB drives were more the norm.

I’ve seen portable storage move from 5 ¼ floppy, to 3.5 floppy, to Zip, to CD, to DVD to USB.

Most of how we do our computing has moved from desktops, laptops and tablets to smart phones.

The world is even moving from books to book-like devices.

Facebook has made various tweaks since it opened itself to the world about three or so years ago. If you were on the social media site in its earlier days, you know the Facebook of today looks nothing like the Facebook of yesterday (except for the colors).

Believe it or not, you have survived this progression of changes. And you will survive Facebook’s latest changes as well! Continue reading »

Lately, I’ve been feeling old. Running after three kids, keeping up with household stuff and dealing with the “opportunities” at work pretty much have me run down at the end of the day.

Thankfully, just because I feel old doesn’t mean I look old, especially after a teacher was trying to get me back in high school today. Continue reading »
